The Church
Redeemer Presbyterian Church, founded in 1989, is "one of Manhattan's most vital congregations," according to Christianity Today. It was ranked #1 among “America’s Top Multiplying Churches” by Outreach magazine in 2007, with over 100 churches planted in the last ten years.
Today, Redeemer has over five thousand regular attendees at five services, a host of daughter churches, and is planting churches in large cities throughout the world.
Redeemer’s vision is to spread the gospel, first through ourselves and then through the city by word, deed, and community; to bring about personal changes, social healing, and cultural renewal through a network of churches and ministries that change New York City and through it, the world.

A Network
Something amazing has begun to happen, gradually but unmistakably, in New York City in the last twenty years. It's not only lower crime, or better retail, or more families living in the city, though we certainly appreciate all those things.
It’s that the gospel of Jesus Christ is changing people and the very fabric of their communities. Not just inside churches, but in neighborhoods, offices, theaters, schools, and nightclubs. Not just traditional people, religious people, or moral people, but skeptical people, sophisticated people, spiritual people, broken and brilliant and irreligious people.
That doesn’t happen when Christians come to save the city.
It happens when Christians come to love the city.
To become what we call “a counter-culture for the common good.”
What’s begun to happen in New York City can happen in other great cities of the world as well. And we want to play a part.
That’s why we’ve started a new non-profit, called Redeemer CityNet, to serve and participate in a growing network of leaders and churches, across denominations and continents, who have the same kind of vision for their city that we have for New York.
To plant new churches, find new voices, train new leaders. To provide a platform where leaders in New York, London, Hong Kong, and every city in between can learn from each other, whether their work is in a church, bank, or studio.
This book, and the content on this website, are a bite-sized appetizer to the feast we are working to assemble.
